Lucy Ayala, Program Coordinator

Lucy Ayala, a native of Long Island, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hunter College in 2012 where she studied Political Science and Urban Studies and was president and member of the Model U.N. team and Hunter Sustainability Project, respectively. She joined the Vision Long Island staff in 2011 as an intern and is now the Program Director. She writes the weekly e-newsletter, Smart Talk, provides content, and oversees communications activities.

Prior to working for Vision Long Island, Lucy worked and interned for various non-profits, focusing mostly on affordable and various ranges of housing choices. She also is a member of Housing Works, Inc. and the National Audubon Society.

Having been raised in a compact, walkable community, she has grown to understand and appreciate the importance of the smart growth principles and creating a unique sense of community and place. Lucy currently resides in the Five Towns area. She got her driver’s license at the age of 16 and has not driven a car since..
